You may raise an eyebrow at seeing the word "insulin" on a website about steroids, but you would be surprised to find that insulin is an extremely powerful anabolic.
From Diabetes to Bodybuilding
You are probably more familiar with insulin a treatment for diabetes. First discovered by Frederick Banting and Charles Best in 1920, insulin was a lifesaving treatment for diabetes which, at the time, had been a death sentence. It is estimated that at least 55 million people around the world now use insulin on a regular basis. So how does insulin come into play for bodybuilders and athletes? Insulin is of interest to us because it encourages the use of glucose by cells with insulin receptors and muscles have insulin receptors. This means with excess insulin comes above normal protein synthesis in the muscles, or the more efficient use of protein in the body. Insulin can also stimulate the hormones responsible for Testosterone production. In effect, insulin is an anabolic!
Health & Safety
This being said, insulin is not to be trifled with. Although it can be useful to bodybuilders, it can also be dangerous with a onetime overdose leading to a coma or even death. Used properly and insulin can improve the potency of steroids and can complement human growth hormone (hGH) well.
As with any drug, there are draw backs. As previously mentioned, even one overdose can lead to death. It may also lead to your becoming diabetic! In addition to this, however, insulin can also stimulate fat storage and may need to be combined with some type of fat burning supplement. If you feel sleepy following an injection, you may be suffering from hypoglycemia and need more carbohydrates. Additional symptoms include disorientation, headache, weakness, dizziness, fast heartbeat, sweating, tremor, and nausea. You should inform a training partner if you are using insulin so that they can monitor you as you may not be aware of your hypoglycemic state.
Insulin for Performance Enhancement
So what is the best insulin for performance enhancement? The best insulin for our purposes is Humulin-R which is available without prescription and is long lasting. Ideally you should use 1-2 iu up to 5 or 6 times a day with food (meal should contain at least 40 g of fat). This is the safest method in which to use insulin, although there are plans where insulin is steadily increased (1 iu per 22 lbs. or 10 kg). Those using higher doses must undergo a strict diet and must monitor their blood sugar levels. You must use insulin needles for these injections and they should be done in the skin, not the muscle. Do not change the type of insulin you are using lightly. Insulin must be refrigerated.
